Our dentists will provide a comprehensive dental check-up, where we will take detailed records of your teeth and mouth in our computer software, check for any dental concerns, and provide you with a plan to reach your smile goals. We will explain any treatment options that may be required, and ensure that you are kept aware of what you can expect to maintain or improve your teeth.

X-rays

Dental X-rays of the teeth are important in diagnosing and managing many dental conditions.

Our digital X-rays are optional, but are highly recommended by our dentists to find problems before symptoms appear or that may not be seen in a general check-up before they progress and become costly.
 
In cases involving Wisdom teeth or where our x-rays may not reach, an OPG (panoramic xray of the mouth) may be required.

Question 3

Cleaning

Even though we should be brushing our teeth twice a day, our toothbrushes alone can’t remove hardened plaque (or calculus), only our dentists can! We use specialist tools to clean calculus (or tartar) to prevent decay and gum disease in-chair.
It is recommended to have a dentist clean every 6 months (most of the time, this clean will be covered twice a year by your health fund!). We allow a 30 minute appointment for a comprehensive check-up and clean, making it easier for you to prioritise your oral health around your busy schedule.
We recommend a enamel conditioning treatment after your clean to improve your teeth’s resistance to decay until your next visit.

Fissure Sealing

Fissure sealing protects the deep grooves of your molars that can be missed by the bristles of your toothbrush. This is a quick and painless procedure and highly recommended for kids when their first and second molars start to emerge.
Our dentists will place a runny clear filling material to fill up the grooves of the molar teeth. The sealing material is then adheres to the tooth and hardens when set with our curing light. This sealing material makes it easier to remove food that would otherwise be stuck in the deep grooves that could cause more severe dental problems later.

Gum Disease

Gum (periodontal) disease is one of the most common causes of tooth loss in adults. It is caused by a collection of bacteria underneath the gum line, which can be a result of poor oral hygiene and a lack of regular dental visits.
In many cases, this can be painless in the beginning, so our dentists will do regular checks of the gum health in cleaning appointments. If treated in early stages, our dentists can prevent the progression of the disease in your regular cleaning appointments. However, if left untreated, the weakening of the bone structures that hold the tooth in place are lost, teeth often become loose and extraction of the affected tooth or teeth may be required.

Mouthguards

The Australian Dental Association (ADA) strongly recommends a custom-made mouthguard to protect from serious sporting injuries to the lower head, such as broken jaws, fractured, cracked or knocked-out teeth, cut lips and tongues. You don’t just have to be playing obvious contact sports to sustain those kinds of injuries. Even non-contact sports like cricket, basketball, netball, touch football, skateboarding and soccer, carry a real risk of accidental collision resulting dental trauma.
Our dentists will make sure your custom-made mouthguard fits properly, is resilient and doesn’t impact speech or breathing and meets the requirements of your sport. A custom-made mouthguard absorbs and spreads the impact of the damaging blow, and is fabricated based on a mould of your teeth and jaw.
 
The mouthguard device is made by a qualified Australian laboratory before being approved by our dentists.

Question 7

Splints for Grinding/Clenching

A dental splint is a clear, specially fitted device that prevents and protects the teeth from damage done by grinding/clenching teeth overnight. Many patients may not be aware that they are grinding overnight, which can result in headaches or jaw pain. Our dentists may be able to diagnose based on wear or cracks in the teeth, or by examination of the head and neck muscles.  
Without any protection to the teeth, grinding can cause worn down teeth (which can expose the sensitive nerve of the tooth) and cracks, which left untreated, may result in the affected tooth/teeth requiring extraction.
